BTSE Exchange Pte Ltd (“BTSE Bhutan”) has been granted a Financial Services License (FSL) by the Gelephu Financial Services Office (GFSO), the regulator of the Gelephu Mindfulness City (GMC) Special Administrative Region. This license follows an In-Principle Approval received in April 2026 and confirms that BTSE Bhutan satisfied all pre-conditions stipulated by the GFSO.
The FSL authorizes two regulated activities: operating a multilateral trading facility for virtual asset exchange and providing institutional-grade custody services. BTSE Bhutan will begin onboarding users soon, launching spot trading for BTC/USDT and ETH/USDT pairs initially. Fiat on-ramp and off-ramp services are planned for later stages. All client assets will be held under licensed custody arrangements in line with GFSO requirements. The company is establishing a local office in Gelephu and hiring local talent to support its presence.
The granting of this Financial Services License marks a significant step in the operationalization of the Gelephu Mindfulness City as a specialized regulatory hub for digital assets. By securing full authorization for both trading and custody, BTSE Bhutan moves beyond preliminary approvals to become a fully regulated venue within the GFSO framework.
