Coinbase announced on October 6, 2026, that it will relaunch the Coinbase Pro brand as part of a new unit called Coinbase Global Exchange. This platform integrates the acquired options venue Deribit, which held over $30 billion in open interest for bitcoin options as of September 30, 2026. The company targets a launch by the end of 2026, aiming to unify American and international derivatives markets into a single regulated liquidity pool.

The announcement highlights spot margin trading with leverage of up to ten times on large assets and five times on others. However, for users in Germany, actual available leverage depends on European supervisory classification. Since March 2026, Coinbase has offered futures through its Advanced platform under MiFID II rules. If regulators classify these products as contracts for difference (CFDs), BaFin’s general order from July 2019 mandates a 50% initial margin, effectively capping leverage at two times for crypto CFDs.
