US spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds returned to net inflows on Tuesday, recording $119 million according to SoSoValue data. This reversal followed Monday’s $90 million loss, occurring despite Bitcoin falling from above $86,600 to below $84,000, with the asset trading at $83,971 and down 2.1% over the past 24 hours per CoinGecko. CryptoQuant contributor MorenoDV noted that Bitcoin’s recovery faced increased profit-taking as the price traded at a substantial premium to active traders’ estimated $68,900 cost basis, suggesting sustained recovery depends on fresh demand absorbing selling pressure.
In contrast, Ether ETFs continued to bleed capital, recording $202 million in outflows on Tuesday, a sharp increase from approximately $51 million on Monday. Total Ether ETF outflows over this period rose to about $408 million, marking a six-session extension of the negative flow trend. Other crypto ETFs posted mixed results: XRP ETFs attracted $3.1 million, while Solana ETFs recorded $3.7 million in outflows. Zcash ETFs posted no net flows after experiencing outflows in the previous two trading sessions.
The divergence between Bitcoin and Ether ETF flows highlights a bifurcation in institutional sentiment, where capital is rotating back into the primary digital asset despite immediate price weakness. The $119 million inflow into Bitcoin ETFs suggests that investors are treating current price levels as an accumulation opportunity, even as technical indicators like the $68,900 cost basis imply significant overhead supply. This behavior indicates a strategic positioning for medium-term appreciation rather than short-term momentum chasing, contrasting sharply with the accelerating exit from Ether products.
For market structure, the sustained six-day outflow streak from Ether ETFs, totaling roughly $408 million, signals a potential loss of confidence or a specific rebalancing away from altcoin exposure among regulated vehicles. The fact that Bitcoin ETFs can absorb inflows while the underlying asset drops 2.1% demonstrates the resilience of institutional demand channels independent of spot market volatility. However, the reliance on fresh demand to overcome profit-taking near the $84,000 level remains a critical vulnerability; if inflows stall, the gap between ETF holdings and spot liquidity could exacerbate downward pressure.
