Bitcoin analyst Willy Woo identified a significant technical signal using the Fisher Transform indicator, noting that its two trend lines crossed upward during July at -2.26. This event marks only the fourth such occurrence on record for Bitcoin, with previous instances corresponding to bear-market bottoms on monthly time frames. The indicator, created in 2002, smooths price action to reveal trend strength by correcting statistical biases in extreme values.
While this crossover historically precedes macro uptrends, Woo cautioned that consolidation or further declines remain possible due to speculative trader activity influencing momentum. On weekly charts, a bullish divergence emerged as the indicator hit a swing low of -2.85 in late December while Bitcoin traded near $90,000. Despite these signals, doubts persist regarding whether the July lows near $57,000 represented a definitive cycle bottom, as bid-side activity showed limited broad buyer interest.
The emergence of a fourth historical bullish cross in the Fisher Transform provides a structured data point for assessing market cycle transitions, particularly when combined with observed divergences between price lows and indicator lows. This technical formation suggests that selling pressure may have exhausted itself, creating conditions favorable for a sustained recovery. However, the reliability of such signals is contingent on the absence of speculative noise, which can distort short-term momentum and delay clear trend confirmation.
From an institutional perspective, the discrepancy between strong technical reversal signals and weak bid-side accumulation highlights a critical gap in current market structure. While algorithms and long-term holders may recognize value at lower prices, broader participation remains hesitant. Monitoring whether this lack of typical buyer interest resolves into genuine demand will be essential for validating the bullish thesis, as technical indicators alone cannot guarantee a shift in fundamental market sentiment without accompanying volume expansion.
