Bitcoin Suisse intends to shift up to half of its Swiss workforce abroad, affecting potentially 60 of its 120 local positions. The restructuring primarily targets back-office and administrative functions, which will be relocated to lower-cost hubs in Bratislava and Vietnam. CEO Andrej Majcen confirmed that cost efficiency was a key driver for the move, noting that operating these services in the new locations would be significantly less expensive.
The company stated this initiative is part of a broader strategy to expand internationally rather than a reaction to market weakness. Founded in Zug in 2013, Bitcoin Suisse provides crypto trading, custody, staking, and lending services. In June, the firm announced plans to target institutional clients and high-net-worth individuals globally. This operational change follows recent regulatory milestones, including licenses secured in Liechtenstein and Bermuda earlier this year, and full regulatory approval for its Middle East subsidiary in Abu Dhabi in July.
This development signals a strategic pivot for Bitcoin Suisse from a locally-focused entity to a globalized financial infrastructure provider. By relocating non-core administrative functions to emerging markets, the firm aims to optimize its cost base while retaining its Swiss headquarters for client-facing and regulated activities. This approach mirrors trends seen in traditional finance where back-office consolidation supports broader geographic expansion without compromising local regulatory standing.
From an Institutional Adoption perspective, the move underscores the maturation of crypto-native firms into structured wealth management platforms. Securing licenses in jurisdictions like Liechtenstein, Bermuda, and Abu Dhabi indicates a deliberate effort to build a compliant, multi-jurisdictional framework capable of serving institutional mandates. Investors should watch how this operational restructuring impacts service delivery standards and whether the cost savings are reinvested into technology or compliance infrastructure to support the targeted growth in family office and asset manager segments.
