Fairshake, a political action committee funded by Coinbase, Ripple Labs, and Andreessen Horowitz, announced it will support 32 House of Representatives candidates ahead of the 2026 US midterm elections. The group plans to initially spend $6 million on six specific candidates, with total projected spending exceeding $100 million for ads supporting both House and Senate races. This includes at least $30 million dedicated to backing Republican Jon Husted against Democrat Sherrod Brown in Ohio’s Senate race.
The endorsed slate comprises 19 Republicans and 13 Democrats, all of whom voted to advance the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act. Although this legislation failed to pass a crucial Senate vote, leaving its future uncertain, Fairshake spokesperson Geoff Vetter emphasized the organization's issue-focused nature, stating they back pro-crypto candidates from both parties who support American innovation. Specific initial funding of $1 million each is directed toward three Democratic representatives—Janelle Bynum, Derek Tran, and Steven Horsford—and three Republican representatives—French Hill, Bill Huizenga, and Bryan Steil. Public Citizen reported that as of June, Fairshake had spent $82 million on ads, drawing from an estimated $189 million in contributions from crypto-aligned groups.
The strategic allocation of over $100 million by Fairshake underscores the growing influence of cryptocurrency industry capital in shaping legislative outcomes through electoral politics. By targeting incumbents across party lines who supported the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act, the PAC aims to secure a congressional majority favorable to regulatory clarity despite the bill's recent failure in the Senate. This approach highlights a shift from reactive lobbying to proactive candidate selection, where financial resources are deployed to protect existing pro-crypto voices rather than solely recruiting new ones.
Market structure implications arise from the uncertainty surrounding the Clarity Act's fate, which directly impacts institutional adoption and compliance frameworks. With polls suggesting potential Democratic control of Congress in 2027, the heavy investment in key races like Ohio serves as a hedge against regulatory stagnation or adverse policy shifts. The continued spending indicates that major crypto firms view electoral leverage as essential for establishing a stable legal environment, potentially accelerating the formation of a permanent pro-crypto caucus within the federal government.
