U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Arthur Levitt, Representative Greg Ganske, and Iowa Superintendent of Securities Craig Goettsch are scheduled to host an Investors’ Town Meeting at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Des Moines on Friday, November 21. The free educational event is projected to attract more than 800 investors for sessions running from 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., including one-hour seminars on investment tips and financial goals.
This gathering marks the 21st installment of a national series designed to promote public understanding of securities markets and allow officials to hear directly from investors. The steering committee includes representatives from major industry bodies such as the New York Stock Exchange, NASDAQ, AARP, and the Investment Company Institute. While admission is free, reservations are recommended due to limited seating.
The initiative highlights the SEC’s ongoing effort to bridge the gap between regulatory institutions and retail participants through direct engagement. By positioning the town meeting as a mechanism for both education and feedback, the agency aims to strengthen market integrity by empowering individuals with basic knowledge on fraud avoidance and informed decision-making.
From a Compliance perspective, this grassroots approach serves as a preventive measure against potential abuse by fostering a more literate investor base. The involvement of diverse organizations, ranging from the Bond Market Association to personal financial advisor groups, underscores a collaborative model where regulatory oversight intersects with private sector expertise to demystify complex financial products.
