Securitize shares climbed about 10% Thursday following the launch of Securitize Stocks, a new offering that provides eligible investors with exposure to tokenized versions of major US equities. The initial lineup includes Apple, Nvidia, Microsoft, Tesla, and eight other US-listed companies. These tokens are backed one-for-one by underlying shares and represent security entitlements under Article 8 of the Uniform Commercial Code, preserving shareholder benefits such as dividends and voting rights.
The assets will settle in USDC on Solana, with Jump Trading providing liquidity through market-making services. Trading begins during extended market hours via Securitize’s registered broker-dealer platform, with plans to expand to 24/7 trading on an unspecified timeline. Securitize also intends to make these assets available on tokenized securities platforms being developed by the New York Stock Exchange and OKXICE, though neither has set a launch date. Beyond trading, Ripple Prime plans to support the launch and explore incorporating the assets into its institutional trading services, while decentralized lending platform Aave has been identified as a potential venue for using the stocks as collateral.
This development marks a significant step in bridging traditional equity markets with blockchain infrastructure by leveraging established legal frameworks like the UCC to ensure regulatory compliance. By securing backing from major financial entities such as the NYSE and integrating with institutional platforms like Ripple Prime, Securitize is positioning tokenized equities not merely as speculative assets but as functional instruments within existing capital market structures. The preservation of dividend and voting rights addresses a critical gap in previous crypto-native equity representations, potentially accelerating institutional adoption by aligning digital assets with traditional shareholder expectations.
Market reaction suggests growing investor confidence in the viability of real-world asset tokenization, evidenced by Securitize's 54% monthly gain and the broader RWA sector's expansion to $38.88 billion. However, operational risks remain regarding the transition from extended-hours trading to 24/7 availability and the eventual integration with exchange-developed platforms. Investors should monitor how liquidity providers like Jump Trading manage price discovery across different venues and whether regulatory bodies maintain their current stance on security entitlements in decentralized environments.
