Bitcoin treasury company Strategy has proposed paying daily dividends on four of its preferred stocks: STRF, STRC, STRK, and STRD. The Nasdaq-listed firm stated that if approved, this change would accrue dividends every calendar day, including weekends and holidays, with payments issued the next business day. Shareholders are scheduled to vote on the proposal at a meeting on October 28.
The company asserts that daily distributions will reduce reinvestment lag, enhance liquidity and market efficiency, and increase price stability. Strategy also noted that these enhancements could benefit common stockholders by increasing the attractiveness of its Digital Credit instruments and supporting efficient access to preferred equity capital. This move comes as Strategy slows its aggressive bitcoin purchases amid a bear market for the cryptocurrency. Recently, the firm bought 950 bitcoins for $75.7 million, its first purchase since August, while maintaining a program to potentially sell up to $1.25 billion in BTC to fund reserves and dividends.
This proposal signals a strategic pivot in how corporate bitcoin treasuries manage capital structure and investor relations. By shifting from periodic to daily dividend accruals, Strategy aims to create a more continuous yield mechanism for its preferred equity holders. This structural change is designed to mitigate volatility in the secondary markets for these specific securities, potentially stabilizing their pricing independent of broader crypto market swings. It reflects an effort to institutionalize the utility of digital credit instruments within traditional equity frameworks, making them more attractive to income-focused investors who require predictable cash flow timing.
However, the operational complexity of accruing dividends every calendar day introduces distinct administrative and compliance considerations. While the economics remain unchanged, the frequency of payment processing requires robust infrastructure to handle weekend and holiday accruals accurately. For the broader market, this experiment tests whether high-frequency dividend models can sustain demand for corporate crypto exposure during periods of asset depreciation. Given that Strategy’s common stock has declined nearly 50% over the past year despite long-term appreciation, the success of this liquidity enhancement may be critical in restoring confidence among preferred shareholders and maintaining the company’s ability to raise capital efficiently.
