Zcash (ZEC) surged double digits to $1,388 on Thursday following the publication of community vote results for its next network upgrade, NU7. The privacy coin is currently trading at $1,368, up 10.9% on the day and 168% over 30 days, making it the ninth-largest asset by market cap at $22.9 billion. This price action reflects a decisive governance outcome where holders overwhelmingly supported maintaining the existing issuance model rather than switching to smooth issuance.

The NU7 sentiment polls, whose results landed on Sunday, saw a record 66% turnout from eligible shielded ZEC holders, totaling 2.4 million ZEC cast. Coinholders voted 98.9% to keep Bitcoin-style halvings, alongside choices for faster 25-second blocks and immediate deprecation of the legacy Sprout pool. While the community selected February 2031 for starting fee recycling to miners, advisory panels had favored an earlier start. Key entities including Shielded Labs, Project Tachyon, ZODL, the Zcash Foundation, and Valar Group have aligned on the February 2031 date as the most conservative interpretation of the results.
