Bitwise Asset Management has introduced the Bitwise Lighter Staking ETP (BLIT) on Deutsche Börse Xetra, marking the first exchange-traded product tracking LIT, the native token of decentralized derivatives platform Lighter. The fully backed product holds LIT in cold storage and charges a 0.85% annual expense ratio, allowing European investors to gain exposure through standard brokerage accounts without direct token ownership. Although branded as a staking ETP, BLIT will not generate staking rewards until it reaches sufficient assets under management for efficient processing; currently, it tracks LIT’s price exclusively.
This launch follows Bitwise’s April introduction of a Hyperliquid staking ETP in Europe, reflecting an expansion into tokens associated with major decentralized derivatives platforms. Lighter operates as an Ethereum-based decentralized exchange for perpetual futures, utilizing zero-knowledge proofs for trade verification while enabling users to retain asset control. The platform offers zero-fee trading for retail users to compete with established rivals like Hyperliquid. Recent data indicates Lighter recorded nearly $1.8 billion in trading volume over the past 24 hours. Additionally, Lighter gained significant distribution reach in July when Robinhood integrated the exchange into its Ethereum layer-2 network, Robinhood Chain, allowing eligible wallet users to trade perpetual futures settled via Lighter smart contracts.
The introduction of BLIT signifies a maturing institutional pathway for accessing emerging decentralized derivatives competitors beyond the dominant Hyperliquid ecosystem. By listing on Deutsche Börse Xetra, Bitwise provides regulated European capital with a compliant vehicle to evaluate Lighter’s market share gains, particularly following its integration with Robinhood Chain. This move highlights how traditional finance infrastructure is increasingly adapting to capture value from high-volume decentralized exchanges that offer distinct technical advantages, such as zero-knowledge proof verification and non-custodial trading models, which appeal to privacy-conscious or security-focused investors.
However, the operational gap between the product’s name and its current functionality presents a nuanced compliance and credibility consideration. Since BLIT does not yet generate staking rewards due to insufficient assets under management, early adopters are effectively purchasing pure price exposure rather than yield-bearing instruments. Investors must monitor whether the ETP achieves the critical mass required to activate staking mechanisms, as this transition will determine if the product delivers on its dual promise of regulatory accessibility and decentralized finance yield. Until then, the competitive dynamics between Lighter and Hyperliquid remain the primary driver of LIT’s valuation within this structured product.
