Deutsche Bank, Germany’s largest lender, is preparing to launch its crypto custody service within weeks, according to a report citing the bank's corporate banking chief. The initial rollout will focus on European corporate and institutional clients, supporting the custody of major cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin. Following this debut, the bank plans to expand the platform into Asia next year.

The service was first officially announced in September, with Deutsche Bank stating at that time that the launch was subject to the completion of applicable regulatory timelines. Beyond basic custody, the platform aims to eventually facilitate services that help clients move money into and out of stablecoins. Gerald Podobnik, co-head of the corporate bank, emphasized the necessity for financial systems to offer tokenized or blockchain solutions.

This development places Deutsche Bank among a growing cohort of traditional financial institutions entering the digital asset space. Over the past 18 months, major global banks including BNY Mellon, State Street, Standard Chartered, U.S. Bank, and Citigroup have committed to direct crypto custody services. Crypto custody often serves as an entry point for banks exploring broader blockchain applications, with stablecoins and tokenization becoming increasingly prominent topics as firms seek to accelerate specific financial services.
