Bitmine Immersion Technologies extended its weekly buying streak by acquiring 15,112 Ethereum, valued at approximately $41 million. This purchase raises the NYSE-listed company’s total holdings to 6,016,414 ETH, worth roughly $16.4 billion based on a reference price of $2,726 per coin. The accumulation represents 4.9% of Ethereum’s 122.1 million token supply, placing Bitmine 99% of the way toward its "Alchemy of 5%" goal of controlling 5% of the network, a milestone reached in 15 months since launching its treasury strategy on June 30, 2025.
Chairman Tom Lee stated that a crypto bull market is underway, noting that Ethereum outperformed the S&P 500 by 6,832 basis points this quarter despite macro headwinds such as a hawkish Federal Reserve and rising bond yields. Bitmine’s total assets, including cash and other investments, reached $17.4 billion as of Saturday. These holdings include 214 Bitcoin, $643 million in cash and marketable securities, a $180 million stake in Beast Industries, and a $117 million position in Eightco Holdings. Bitmine remains the world’s largest Ethereum treasury and the second-largest crypto treasury overall, trailing only Strategy, which holds about 847,666 BTC. Approximately 84% of Bitmine’s ETH holdings are staked through its MAVAN platform, generating projected annualized revenue of roughly $363 million.
The completion of Bitmine's "Alchemy of 5%" target signifies a concentrated institutional accumulation of Ethereum that challenges traditional notions of decentralized asset distribution. By holding nearly 5% of the total supply, Bitmine exerts significant influence over the network's economic security and liquidity dynamics. This level of concentration raises questions regarding market manipulation risks and the potential impact on price discovery mechanisms, particularly as the entity continues to generate substantial staking revenue from these holdings. The strategic pivot from pure acquisition to yield generation via staking indicates a maturation of corporate crypto treasuries, moving beyond speculative holding toward operational income streams that justify high valuations even during bearish cycles.
From an institutional adoption perspective, Bitmine’s performance relative to the S&P 500 and its resilience during recent market downturns provide a compelling case study for public companies integrating digital assets into their balance sheets. However, the reliance on a single chairman’s narrative regarding a "bull market" introduces governance and reputational risks if market conditions diverge from expectations. The comparison with Strategy highlights a bifurcation in treasury strategies, with some entities prioritizing Bitcoin and others, like Bitmine, focusing on Ethereum’s utility and staking capabilities. Investors should monitor whether this concentration leads to regulatory scrutiny or if it stabilizes as a new norm for large-scale corporate crypto exposure.
