Bybit Co-founder and CEO Ben Zhou outlined the company’s expansion from a cryptocurrency exchange into "The New Financial Platform" during its biannual "Keynote with Ben." The update highlights significant progress in traditional finance (TradFi) integration, including the October 12 launch of stock trading for eligible users, offering access to over 1,000 U.S. stocks and ETFs via USDC. Bybit also announced plans to launch mStocks, a tokenized stock product backed 1:1 by real equities, in November through a collaboration with Mantle.
Since entering TradFi with CFDs in 2022, Bybit has established itself as the largest crypto CFD platform, with peak trading volumes reaching $100 billion. Its current TradFi offerings span more than 600 products across equities, indices, commodities, and FX, generating over $180 billion in perpetuals volume. The platform recently launched IPO Express, providing access to selected primary-market opportunities like SpaceX. Beyond trading, Bybit has expanded its payments infrastructure, issuing over 4 million Bybit Cards and connecting users to more than 5,000 merchants across 15+ countries. In security and compliance, the firm intercepted over 30,000 suspicious withdrawal requests in the first half of 2026, protecting users from potential losses exceeding $700 million, while securing five new regulatory licenses across jurisdictions including the EU and Indonesia.
Bybit’s strategic pivot reflects a broader industry trend where major crypto exchanges seek to capture value beyond volatile digital asset trading by integrating traditional financial instruments. By launching direct stock trading and developing tokenized equity products like mStocks, Bybit aims to create a unified ecosystem that appeals to both crypto-native users and traditional investors seeking seamless cross-asset exposure. This convergence reduces friction for users who previously needed separate accounts for crypto and equities, potentially increasing user retention and transaction volume within the Bybit environment.
From a Regulatory and Compliance perspective, the expansion carries inherent risks and rewards. Securing licenses in diverse jurisdictions such as the EU, Cayman Islands, and South Africa demonstrates an effort to legitimize these hybrid services globally. However, offering tokenized stocks and IPO access involves complex securities regulations that vary significantly by region. The success of this model depends on Bybit’s ability to maintain robust compliance frameworks while scaling these products, ensuring that the convenience of a single platform does not compromise legal adherence or investor protection standards.
